Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about what the site tracks, what the bubbles mean and how to interpret the rankings.

Why are there only 60 bubbles?

The visualisation is capped at 60 results so individual games remain readable and clickable. The ranked list below the bubbles can contain the complete matching tracked result.

Does a bigger bubble mean a better game?

No. Bubble size represents current player activity within the selected view. Game Bubbles does not score quality and does not use player count as a recommendation.

Why can a category list contain more games than the bubble map?

The category is filtered and ranked first. Up to 60 leading matches become bubbles, while the list can show all matching tracked games returned by the catalogue.

Why does a game say “Building history”?

Historical comparisons require earlier snapshots. Newly tracked games may not yet have enough history for the selected period, so the site says so rather than inventing a comparison.

Why are some categories smaller than others?

The active catalogue is a subset of the wider discovered and sampled catalogue. Broad categories can naturally contain more tracked titles, while narrower categories may contain fewer. Coverage can change as the catalogue is sampled and refreshed.

Are these sales figures?

No. The site deals with observed player activity. Concurrent player counts should not be treated as copies sold, owners or revenue.

Is Game Bubbles affiliated with Valve or Steam?

No. Game Bubbles is an independent project. Game names, artwork and related marks belong to their respective owners.

How often does the catalogue change?

The site uses separate discovery, sampling, promotion, metadata and snapshot processes. That means the visible active catalogue can evolve as the wider catalogue is processed rather than remaining a permanently fixed list.
